About this build

This hatchback is one of 14 demo and show builds in the Galaxi Sound portfolio, and one of 2 built around Sony equipment. It dates from 2014, and the 12 photos in the gallery above show the finished work in detail.

Below, each part of the work list is explained in plain terms — what it involves, and how the same idea can be scaled to a car you drive every day.

About Sony

Sony, the Japanese electronics maker, has long made car audio as well — head units, speakers, amplifiers and subwoofers — including the Xplode line aimed at high-output systems.

Plain-language notes on every item in the work list — what it is, why it is done, and what to know before doing the same on your car.

Building around Sony

Demo cars are built to showcase a brand, so that brand's equipment is the centerpiece of the system. On your own car, mixing brands is completely normal. What matters is that the parts are matched: speaker power handling to amplifier output, subwoofers to their enclosure, and the whole system to your car's electrical capacity and the way you listen — and then that it gets tuned for that specific interior.

Custom door panels

Factory doors are designed around small speakers and thin plastic trim. A custom door panel gives larger or additional speakers a rigid, sealed mounting surface, aims them better and turns the door into a design element with its own colors, trim rings or lighting. Done right, the panel still clears the window mechanism, handle and lock, and it stays solid and rattle-free after years of opening and closing.

Custom subwoofer enclosures

A subwoofer only performs as well as the box it's in. A custom enclosure is built to the internal volume the driver needs, then shaped to the space the car actually has — trunk floor, side walls, rear deck or cabin. Fiberglass lets the box follow curves no flat MDF panel can, which is why show builds lean on it. On a daily driver the same skills can go the other way: a stealth box that hides the sub and keeps the trunk usable.

LED and neon lighting

Lighting is what makes a show car readable in a dark venue: it outlines enclosures, amplifiers and panels and ties them to the build's color scheme. Modern LED strips run relatively cool and draw little current, and should be wired on their own fused circuit and switch. On a car you drive on the street, keep effects inside the cabin and trunk — Florida restricts certain colors and flashing lights that are visible from outside the vehicle.

Custom interior and trim panels

Custom interior panels tie the audio system to the rest of the car. They are usually shaped from MDF or fiberglass, then wrapped in vinyl or fabric, or painted to match the build's color scheme. Beyond looks, they give speakers, displays and controls a clean place to live and hide the wiring behind them. The key is fit: panels have to line up with the factory trim and stay quiet on rough roads.

How we build show and demo cars

Show and demo cars follow the same sequence as any serious system, just taken further. First comes planning: what the car is for, where the equipment can live, and how the audio will fit the look of the build. Then fabrication — enclosures, panels and trim made to fit that specific car. Then wiring, with correctly sized power cable, fusing and clean signal runs. Last comes tuning: gains, crossover points and time alignment set for that interior, by ear and with measurement tools.

The team behind these builds holds IASCA championship titles and an SPL world record, and the same crew handles everyday installs at our Kendall shop — from a head unit swap to a full custom build. On daily drivers we keep installs lease-safe, with factory-retention harnesses and reversible wiring, so the car can go back to stock.
