About this build

This Audi TT is one of 14 demo and show builds in the Galaxi Sound portfolio, and one of 5 built around Kicker equipment. The 11 photos in the gallery above show the finished work in detail.

Below, each part of the work list is explained in plain terms — what it involves, and how the same idea can be scaled to a car you drive every day.

About Kicker

Kicker is an American car audio brand from Stillwater, Oklahoma, recognizable by its yellow-and-black branding and known above all for its subwoofers and amplifiers. That strong visual identity is why Kicker demo cars so often wear the brand's colors.

What each part of the build involves

Plain-language notes on every item in the work list — what it is, why it is done, and what to know before doing the same on your car.

Custom interior and trim panels

Custom interior panels tie the audio system to the rest of the car. They are usually shaped from MDF or fiberglass, then wrapped in vinyl or fabric, or painted to match the build's color scheme. Beyond looks, they give speakers, displays and controls a clean place to live and hide the wiring behind them. The key is fit: panels have to line up with the factory trim and stay quiet on rough roads.

Subwoofers

Subwoofers reproduce the lowest notes — generally below about 80–100 Hz, where regular door speakers can't move enough air. Running several subs, as show and SPL cars often do, raises output, but each one also needs amplifier power, enclosure volume and electrical capacity to match. For most daily drivers, one or two well-chosen subs in the right enclosure give deep, clean bass without giving up the trunk.

Amplifiers and amp racks

Amplifiers turn the small signal from the head unit into the power speakers and subwoofers need. A mono amplifier usually drives the subs, while a multi-channel amp powers the door and dash speakers. In a trunk install or amp rack, placement matters: amps need airflow to stay cool, a solid mount, short and properly fused power runs, and gains set with a meter so the speakers get clean power instead of distortion.

Custom subwoofer enclosures

A subwoofer only performs as well as the box it's in. A custom enclosure is built to the internal volume the driver needs, then shaped to the space the car actually has — trunk floor, side walls, rear deck or cabin. Fiberglass lets the box follow curves no flat MDF panel can, which is why show builds lean on it. On a daily driver the same skills can go the other way: a stealth box that hides the sub and keeps the trunk usable.

Clean cable management

Good wiring is invisible when it's done right and obvious when it isn't. That means power cable of the correct gauge for the amplifier's current draw, a fuse close to the battery, solid grounds, power and signal cables run on opposite sides of the car to avoid noise, and grommets wherever wires pass through metal. Neat, labeled runs also make the system easier to service or upgrade later.

How we build show and demo cars

Show and demo cars follow the same sequence as any serious system, just taken further. First comes planning: what the car is for, where the equipment can live, and how the audio will fit the look of the build. Then fabrication — enclosures, panels and trim made to fit that specific car. Then wiring, with correctly sized power cable, fusing and clean signal runs. Last comes tuning: gains, crossover points and time alignment set for that interior, by ear and with measurement tools.

The team behind these builds holds IASCA championship titles and an SPL world record, and the same crew handles everyday installs at our Kendall shop — from a head unit swap to a full custom build. On daily drivers we keep installs lease-safe, with factory-retention harnesses and reversible wiring, so the car can go back to stock.
